Can Tea Help With Weight Management?
If you've ever tried losing weight, you've probably wished for something that burns extra calories without much effort.
Turns out tea qualifies. Just don't expect miracles overnight.
There's a 2023 study from The Journal of Nutritional Biochemistry worth looking at. Researchers used leptin receptor knockout (LepR KO) rats — basically obese rats — and what they found was pretty clear: EGCG significantly reduced fat buildup in the liver, regulated several lipid metabolic pathways (glycerophospholipids, glycerolipids, sphingolipids), and improved blood lipid profiles. In plain English: the rats' livers got leaner, their blood lipids improved, and their fat metabolism machinery worked better.
Now, rats aren't humans. But the study proves something simple: EGCG does things to fat. Real things.
Human trials back this up too. One had people taking EGCG along with a carotenoid for four weeks — they lost weight and their fat cells actually shrank. Another combined tea drinking with exercise — that group shed more body fat than those who only exercised.
And tea is packed with EGCG.
So yeah, now you know.
